The coal industry has several environmental impacts such as land use, waste management, water and air pollution .In addition to atmospheric pollution ,coal burning produces hundreds of millions of solid waste products annually including fly ash ,bottom ash and flue-gas desulfurization sludge that contain various toxic components such as mercury, uranium, thorium, arsenic and other heavy metals that are harmful to man in addition to that coal is the largest contributor of carbon (iv)oxide to the environment. There are several health effects to man that finally leads to death.Impact of coal mining to land is one it reduces the aesthetic purpose of the land by reducing the natural value of land by the alteration of land forms often imposes unfamiliar and discontinuous configuration more of these include water pollution in this case in Kenya ocean pollution . the release of Carbon (iv) oxide leads to acidic rain which corrodes the limestone round the coast which is mainly used for construction which leads to the destruction of structures.all these can be avoided by not mining coal because there are other sources of energy which are renewable and more environmental friendly.
